Hi Geo, how funny these are the same lights I bought on ebay uk years ago and have them on the bike I'm finishing. On my old F1 I mounted Hellas ( did that bike before ebay existed ) I made brackets with suction cups on the lights to eliminate the vibration problem. I noticed the factory use to stuff sponges behind the lights. Guess they had the same problem. One of the guys on the Forum bought my F1 (Gregg) maybe he can post pictures of the brackets behind the lights, they worked quite well and looked clean and simple. These where as close as I could get to the factory lights as well. I've included a few pictures of the factory F1 lights I took at the museo and my Carellos and F1. I do need covers that don't say Ford! Lou

Cheers very muchly for the photos Lou, I have been meaning to ask someone to take photos of those lights when they next went to the Museum :P

I have seen photos of your old F1 with the Hella's before, the big question I have for you is where did you get the three little Carello rear lights from... I have three on my bike and they were a real devil to source... but I need another three though for my next project bike!

......and the written description for the above photos... jeez this will sound complicated!!!

The Thersby frame came with a T shaped front Fairing holder, I could have bent this to the shape of the fairing but it is extremely tough steel... and I didnt want to have to resort to heat treating.

I used a piece of 3mm x 30mm alu flat bar long enough to mount the lights (obviously!) this is flat on each end where it is bolted to the Thersby T piece (which was cut down in overall width) with a little bit overhanging to bolt the lights to! And bent outwards in the middle where I used a rivnut which secures this to the fairing (with a rubber washer bewteen it and the fairing)

This is secured to the T piece by 8mm bolts (I used the flat headed ones which came with the Carellos) with a rubber washer in between it and the Thersby T piece to dampen the vibration.

I had some aluminium shaped spacers knocking around which have an 8mm bore these are around 30mm in diameter but step down to 20mm I had a couple of 30mm rubber grommets which fit perfectly over the alu spacer so I made 28mm holes in the front fairing and the grommets fit nicely in there too..this means that the spacer is damped for vibration against the fairing.

The carello's came with U brackets in which I drilled four 3mm tapped holes and secured them to the back of the light housing with a couple of pices of rubber inner tube as a vibration damper. I doubly secured these 4 little bolts with dome nuts.

The U brackets where they originally fit over the holes in the lower rearside of the light housing are slightly concaved on the inside faces and serrated to grip the light housing. I cut a piece of stainless tube and rounded it off so it fits inside the U bracket..... to this stainless tube I welded a long stainless steel bolt. This is secured to the bracket with the original carello 8mm bolt which has a lug on it which fits into a slot on the bracket.

Finally I drilled and tapped a 3mm hole in the head of this bolt to secure the earth lead of the light.

hope this all makes sense! :D

Oh one more thing... this all stays in place even when I remove the lights.

When I remove the lights I just replace them with a long bolt so that the stepped aluminium spacer isnt disloged at all! That way its just unclip the live wire......remove the nut on the back of the holder.... withdraw the light.... replace the light with the long bolt....... retighten the nut on the back and all is secure again!

I am quite chuffed actually...now having seen Lou's photos of the museo bike...for the first time I may add....my efforts are not all that far off the original! :D You cant see it in my photos (becuase they are quite old now) but I even have the live wire plugging straight into its corresponding 'socket' in the fairing like the original...honestly I didnt know it was like this on the original but guessed that it may be so!

Hi guys, thanks for posting pics and the info on mounting the Carello headlights.

George....I recently managed to get hold of three of the small square tail lights on eBay. The ones I got aren't made by Carello
though, but by Olsa and the p/n is 07.275.00
They were used on Ferrari 512 doors if that helps, size, shape and look seem identical to the Carellos.

Thanks for that Joe...can you post a pic to show us what they look like?

Just googled them..they look identical to the Carello ones...and are a damn sight cheaper too! :roll:
