Started on the carbs, I have never seen a spring or a slide like this before on a 40mm dellorto

Those look like the guts of a Malossi-modified carb. I have a rather plain-looking set of 41mm Dellortos with these in them, and the only clue on the outside is a funny little backwards-view (must use a mirror to see it correcty) Malossi stamped on both sides. MikeV

Thanks Mike!
I did a quick measurement they measure 42.5, no other markings.
The front side has also been modified, there is two small flat head screws that hold on a piece of machined aluminum, it comes out on a taper.

Have you looked for titanium rods and a special billet crank and......what will you find next? You found a real treasure trove in this one. The slides are always more than the bore size, so these would work for 40-41 mm probably. MikeV

If the slider is made of brass it reminds me of an enduro dellorto I have. the heavy slider stops it moving while the bike is bouncing around.

WOW! Crankyroller and I were just discussing these carbs. I use to call these 'mag' slide carbs because they seemed so light I thought the slides were magnesium. These carbs are usually missing the idle circuit screws as well. Mike Weber (crankyroller) told me they are actually machined aluminum with a hard finish on them. True Malossi carbs for racing. They also have the polished bell mouths as well. Those are the right 'big' springs and 'top hat' spring retainer as well. The throttle action is amazingly light, it feels like fuel injection. Lou

Yes Malossi has been around a while offering modified Carbs for Ducati bikes. Another example of the "green slide monsters" is the street version without the big bell-mouth but being specially machined at the inlet. They have throttle stops and a heavier return springs but other than that are identicle to the "race greenies". I think offered only in 41mm.

Now I got it Paul; those are big muthas. I have a nice set like Mike has posted--with the backwards Malossi emblem on it. It is amazing how many different versions of these carbs there is---like TTs. MikeV
