Hi Clinton,
nice work. Nice to see semi bare red trellis frames.
What is the lock on the LHS for on the F1's? Is it a helmet lock?
Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Steve

Steve, you are correct; a helmet lock it is.

The finished carbs. I replaced all brass internals, needles / seats, floats, chokes, slides, gaskets & seals. All alloy parts were soda blasted. I've opted to chrome the clamps, as they didn't clean up as well as I'd like & they are unobtainium these days.

The brake masters were all stripped & blasted before being painted & re-assembled with all new internals. I've managed to get hold of a few new reservoirs which will be fitted up when they arrive. I'm also waiting on the new stainless banjo bolts.

:o Wow, nice new looking parts. Love the carbs. I didn't know F1's have the same rear m/c as the Pantah's....
Good work. Progressing nicely and uniformly. Unlike my project...
Cheers,
Steve

In the restoration of my Pantahs I had my master cylinders and brake calipers re-anodised rather painted as this is the original process used by Brembo. Then I hit them with Silicone spray to seal the finish and give them a slighty more glossy finish, but they are still quite matt in finish compared to being painted. I was loath to use paint as in the past I have found it didn't play nicely with brake fluid, but as I don't know what type of paint is being user here it may not be an issue.

Keep up the supply of pictures I love seeing the finer details of a restoration project.

Damn you John.

When I first picked up the master cylinders I wasn't overly happy with them, but in the course of assembling & fitting them to the bike I had convinced myself that they would be fine. After your post I kept looking at them until I finally decided to pull them down & start again. This time I'll go with anodising like I should have in the first place.

This is the sort of feedback that I'm thankful for; I had always intended to rebuild the bike to an original condition but have found myself wandering from the path occassionaly & it always helps to have another qualified persons opinion. I want the end product to resemble the factory finished new bike as close of possible. There are a couple of little things that I'm doing that aren't original, like replacing all of the hardware with stainless and the axles with titanium, but this is to ensure that they stay looking new for a long time to come.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone - it's appreciated.

I haven't had a lot to add to this for some time now - not since I stripped it back down & started over. I've been focussing on getting the engine completed, and it's coming along now. I hope to be finished with it within the next couple of weeks & can then start re-assembly. Here's a couple of pics:

Nearing completion:

I had the pistons ceramic coated, as I couldn't find any new originals:

And as per a couple of previous posts, I ended up having all the master cylinders ceramic coated as well, seeing as no one would take the risk of re-anodising them. They turned out brilliantly, though the photo's really don't capture it:

As mentioned, I'm currently waiting on some piston pin circlips & valve shims to finish off the engine, and also waiting on the painter to finish the fork legs then look out!
