I managed to find a pair of good used Vitaloni mirrors on eBay which looked to be the right mirror for my F1 but the bolt hole spacing does not match the holes on the fairing. There are obviously a number of possible reasons for this but I'm curious if anyone can tell me what the bolt hole spacing on their F1 mirror mounts is. The bolt holes on the mirrors I got are 62mm apart, but the holes in the fairing are closer to 66mm.

I'm also curious if Ducati originally installed a metal backing plate for rigidity as I've seen on some motorcycles.

Here's a picture of the mirror and its base.

Unfortunately I've got an '86 & the it would appear they were a little different (76mm spacing). I do have a new pair of the later style mirrors here, which were supposedly the superseded part, but they measure 64mm bolt spacing. The '86 has the steel backing plates, and I would assume the later bikes also had them. I'm not sure if this is of any help to you or not.

When you say you have a new pair, do you mean on your bike or do you mean that you'd sell? I'll go back and measure but those may be the right ones for my motorcycle. I'll go measure but 64mm sounds about right.

Cagiva North America did not sell any 1987 model year F1b's in the USA. The Laguna Seca was an 1987, but not the F1b. The tenth digit of your VIN is the model year, a G is an '86, an H is an '87 and a J is an '88.

If your bike is an 1986 F1b, then it should have a G for the tenth digit, and would have Vitaloni mirrors that are the Sebring type with a special Ducati mount, with 75mm mounting hole spacing.

Loudbike had a bunch of these for sale, but they may have sold out. You might see if they have any left. These used no metal support plate on the inside, only some small washers.

If your bike has a J for the tenth digit, then it is a 1988 F1s, not an F1b, and uses mirrors similar or the same as those that you already have and are available from Bevel Heaven, and Loudbike. These used a metal support plate on the inside of the fairing.

You could contact either of the two Steve's at Bevel Heaven or Loudbike and have them measure the mirrors that they have to see if they are closer to your 66mm mounting. If not, then it's time to modify either the mirrors or the fairing.
