I think I echo most peoples thoughts here, electric bikes are a bit of a whimsy, what's the point? I'm a petrol Head, and proud of it!!! All bikes should be seen and heard! :D Motorcycles to me are mechanical, they're alive, not just rows of batteries, all far too antiseptic..

Sorry, electric bikes just don't do it for me, give me a Ducati TT2 anyday!!

Yesterdays electric bike race, TT Zero, at the IOM TT was won by Michael Rutter on a Motoczyse machine at a lap speed of over 104mph. John McGuinnes was second on the Mugen Shinden at 102mph, and Mark Miller on the second Motoczyse at 101mph. During practice Rutter was timed at over 150mph on Sulby straight.

I am not a great lover of electric bikes, however any machine that laps the mountain circuit at 100mph plus, and has a top speed of over 150 mph plus needs to be taken seriously. When this class started three years ago the lap speeds were in the low eighty's, and many people regarded them as a joke, however a tremendous amount of development has taken place with these machines, and with the Mugen Shinden machine Honda has taken a great deal of interest, and that was obvious from the presence of senior Honda engineers.

I am sure that a great deal of technology being learnt from these machines will be used to the greater advantage of all motor vehicles, and it is sad to think that one day their will be no fossil fuel left, so alternative means of power does need to be found.

The Motoczyse machine was one of the best looking, and functional racing motor cycles that I have ever seen, true it did resemble the sound like a electric lawn motor, however I was assured by one of their engineers that a sound generator could be fitted and programmed to sound like a normal motor cycle, or a fair ground organ !, or even, he assured me a TT 2.

The Manx GP now sounds even more interesting with a proposed new class that would include 851/888's
